SipWise Privacy Policy

SipWise is developed by MAX AI Studio. SipWise is a private drink journal: you log what you drink and it shows four separate pictures — hydration, caffeine, free sugar and alcohol — never one combined score. SipWise is local-first. Your journal is stored on your device and SipWise has no account and no cloud sync.

Data We Store on Your Device

The drinks you log, your drink library (including any photo you add to a custom drink), your goals and references (hydration goal, caffeine reference, alcohol guide, pregnancy / breastfeeding mode), reminders, any ratings or notes you add, your subscription state, and app settings are stored only on your device in an app database and as local files. The database and image files are excluded from iCloud and iTunes / Finder backups. There is no SipWise account and your journal is never uploaded or synced.

AI Features (SipWise Plus)

Voice and photo logging are AI features. When you use one, SipWise sends only what that feature needs to our processing service and to OpenAI to return a result:

• Log by voice: your spoken description is first turned into text by Apple's speech recognition on your device. SipWise then sends that text transcript (for example, “a large flat white and a sparkling water”) — not an audio recording.
• Log by photo or label: the photo you take of the drink or its label. Images are downscaled before upload to reduce what is sent.

• The AI returns estimated drink details. Nothing is logged until you review and confirm it — AI results can be wrong, incomplete, or misread.
• SipWise does not keep the AI-processed content stored long-term on its own servers.
• OpenAI processes requests under its own policies. Do not submit content you are not comfortable sending for cloud AI processing.
• Manual logging (tapping a saved drink or filling in the form) never sends anything to a server.

Anonymous Usage & Diagnostics

In App Store builds, SipWise reports a small amount of anonymous information to MAX AI Studio to understand installs and improve the app. This never includes your journal.

• Install heartbeat: a random install identifier (not linked to you or your Apple ID), app version and build, platform, OS version, device locale and time zone.
• Product-usage events: an event name, the screen and action, a drink category (such as “coffee”) and source (“voice”, “photo” or “manual”), and small counters.
• We never send the drink names you type, notes, photos, amounts, goals, or any other journal content.
• SipWise shows small in-app promotions for other MAX AI Studio apps, fetched from our server. There is no third-party advertising SDK, no IDFA, and no cross-app tracking.

Subscription and Billing

• SipWise Plus is an auto-renewing subscription that unlocks AI voice and photo logging. Everything else in SipWise is free.
• App Store product ID: sipwise_ios_pro_year.
• SipWise Plus includes an allowance of AI logs (currently about 1200 per subscription period; subject to change). Each voice or photo log counts once. Settings shows your usage and reset date.
• Pricing, storefront currency, billing, renewal, restore, cancellation and subscription management are handled by Apple through your App Store account.
• SipWise checks purchase status with our server using the App Store receipt. The server issues an anonymous subscription quota token so AI log usage can be counted across your devices without creating a SipWise account.

Permissions

• Microphone & Speech Recognition: to log a drink by describing it out loud. Speech is converted to text by Apple.
• Camera: to photograph a drink or its label for AI logging.
• Photos: to add your own photo to a drink you create.
• Notifications: to deliver the reminders you turn on.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled and delivered on your device by iOS. The optional water reminder is deliberately gentle: it only nudges you if you are behind your hydration goal, in the mid-afternoon, never in the evening, and never about alcohol. Tapping a reminder opens the related screen in SipWise.

Export and Sharing

Settings › Export data produces a JSON or CSV file through the iOS Share Sheet — this is the only way your full journal leaves the app, and it is free. You can also create a summary “share card” image; when you share it, the app you choose receives that image. SipWise does not post anything on your behalf.

Data Retention

Local app data remains on your device until you delete individual records or uninstall the app — export first if you want a copy. Subscription and purchase records may be retained as needed for access, billing support, AI-allowance tracking, and legal compliance.

SipWise is a journal, not medical advice and not a medical device. The figures are general estimates. Hydration is a personal planning goal; caffeine and free sugar are shown against general references (free sugar against a World Health Organization total-diet reference); alcohol tracking is awareness only, follows the Australian standard-drink guideline, and never sets a “budget” or encourages drinking. SipWise does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. For medical advice, including during pregnancy or breastfeeding, talk to a qualified professional.

Children's Privacy

SipWise is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
